Iridium Data Modems
For Global Data Applications...
Iridium and Globalstar provide data modems for use with their networks by specialized OEM
applications and developers. The user is expected to have significant technical ability.
Outfitter Satellite cannot supply any assistance to the developer related to configuring wiring
harnesses, supplying or configuring appropriate power for the modem, or the use of AT command
sets, etc. These modems are not intended for off-the-shelf use by consumers.
Equipment includes the Iridium 9522A modem, the Iridium 9601 Short Burst Data modem, and the
Globalstar GSP-1620 Duplex Data Modem with low profile antenna and the
Globalstar GSP-1620 Duplex Data Modem with Mini-stick antenna.
Applications include vehicle and asset tracking and remote device monitoring.
Iridium 9601 Short Burst Data (SBD) Modem
The Iridium 9601 SBD modem is a new product costing roughly half of the 9522A.
The 9601 only provides short burst data which is billed on a per byte of data sent or received
basis. By comparison, the 9522A can supply both voice and asynchronous (dial-up) data which are
billed on a per minute basis. The 9601 does NOT have a SIM. The maximum Mobile-Originated
message length is 205 bytes and the Maximum Mobile-Terminated message length is 135 bytes.
This is different from the 9522A which is a SIM-based product.
Please contact Outfitter Satellite for pricing and information.
